We want to address the global need to reduce deaths stemming from non-communicable disease
Juri is a New Zealand technology company that works on open protocols in the pursuit of a healthier world. Our goal is to enable an ecosystem of applications that use economic incentives and collective commitments to change individual behaviours. Through the combined impact of these behaviours, we seek to improve society at large.
We want to address the global need to reduce deaths stemming from non-communicable disease. As per a report from the World Health Organisation:
The leading global risks for mortality in the world are high blood pressure (responsible for 13% of deaths globally), tobacco use (9%), high blood glucose (6%), physical inactivity (6%), and overweight and obesity (5%). These risks are responsible for raising the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancers. They affect countries across all income groups: high, middle and low.
Regular aerobic exercise is a powerful tool in reducing this problem at both a population and an individual level. Financial incentives and loss aversion have been shown to be strong levers in driving behaviour change, which is why we are building a protocol that will pay people to exercise.
To achieve this we are building a pipeline of smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain and a decentralised oracle to support them. The contracts redistribute value among end users who exercise and a decentralised oracle, the Juri Network, enables users to prove that have achieved certain exercise outcomes without giving their data up to a centralised entity.
Customers of the protocol are the application developers and channel partners that want to include financial incentives in their application and their communities. Long term, we will make money by participating in the Juri network as a significant node operator in exchange for network fees.
We have a long way to go to make this vision a reality and we welcome your questions, challenges and support as we go about achieving it.
